Corrections officer charged with sex with female inmate

A 56-year-old corrections officer from Tower, accused of a sexual relationship with a female inmate, now faces seven charges, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

The inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Togo told an investigator that she had sex or attempted sex with James Allen Bongaarts 10 times in a storage area at the camp, most recently on Wednesday, the newspaper says.

The News Tribune story does not include an age of the inmate. The northwest Minnesota facility has a six-month boot camp program for non-dangerous adult female offenders, as well as programs for children in trouble from age 13 to 17.

Bongaarts is expected at a hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in Itasca County District Court, the Grand Rapids Herald-Review reports.
