Sam's Club is throwing some serious shade at its competitor.
Call it a coincidence, but soon after Costco's membership fees went up this month, Sam's Club put together a deal: a $30 Groupon that'll get you a year's membership to the store – which is normally $45. It also comes with a complimentary card for your spouse or other household member, and a $5 gift card.
Oh yeah, and they're throwing in a rotisserie chicken.
There's also an "Instant Savings" package, which costs $45 and gets you the membership, gift card, and chicken, plus a bunch of other bonuses, including $105 in automatic savings loaded onto your card.
Costco's membership fees increased by 10 percent on June 1 – the basic one is now $60 a year. Yep, that's twice as much as the basic Sam's Club deal.
Plus, Costco isn't giving you a chicken.
Will this draw more Costco people over to Sam's?
Hard to say.
One thing to note though – the Groupon is only good for new Sam's Club memberships. So if you already shop there (or dropped your membership within the last six months), this deal doesn't apply to you.
