Costco is selling a $6,000 food kit for the apocalypse

It'll keep a family-of-four fed for a year.

Costco is turning into a prepper's paradise thanks to its growing range of doomsday food kits.

The warehouse club giant has rolled out a food kit costing a whopping $6,000 this week, which provides enough freeze-dried food to keep a family-of-four fed for a whole year.

It's part of a suite of prepper packs Costco offers, ranging from $1,000 to $6,000, with major retailers including Amazon and Walmart selling their own versions in what is becoming a growth market.

The number of natural disasters seen during 2017 that saw people either being without power or displaced from their homes could be "the new normal" thanks to climate change, Business Insider notes.

In which case, having access to freeze-dried foods that can last 25 years would come in useful.

What's in the pack?

Costco's $6,000 pack, produced by Nutristore, contains 36,000 total servings of food, providing 2,000 calories per day per person.

"Enjoy the comfort in knowing you have the essential foods your family will need to survive an emergency or natural disaster!" it says on its site.
