Couple announces pregnancy in rap video

Nicole and Chris Meekins said they thought about traditional baby announcements, but decided those methods were too boring. So they wrote, produced and starred in their own rap video, the Mankato Free Press reports.

The video shows the couple at various locations, including inside a baby store, singing their song "Birds and The Bees."

"We were kind of surprised by how much people like it," said Nicole Meekins, who grew up in North Mankato. The couple now lives in Ohio. Their announcement:

A tavern in Mankato may be among the first in the nation to put a pregnancy test in a public rest room, KARE 11 reports, and even the pub owner agrees it seems odd. The idea came from a regular customer who is an expert in fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. He says, "If it gives you an informed decision at that point in time to stop drinking – your baby is going to be better for it."

Children's Museum announces plans for Mankato

The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota plans to build a permanent home in downtown Mankato, but still needs to raise more than $2 million. So far, the Mankato Free Press reports nearly $1.7 million has been pledged for the $4 million structure. Executive Director Peter Olson has asked the City Council for $250,000 to buy a piece of property next to the Blue Earth County Library. Olson claims the museum would have an annual economic impact of $5 million.
