A couple suspected of shoplifting from a Kohl's store led police on a 100mph chase with three kids in the back of the car – the youngest just 3 months old.
The couple, a 23-year-old man from Brooklyn Center and a 22-year-old woman from St. Cloud, fled the Kohl's in Waite Park at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Waite Park Police Department.
Kohl's was able to provide police with a license plate number for the car they escaped in, which revealed the driver was wanted for a robbery in West St. Paul and may be armed.
An unmarked squad car found their vehicle southbound on Hwy. 15, but when Waite Park PD tried to stop them, they fled onto eastbound I-94.
Attempts by both Stearns County and Wright County sheriff's deputies to use stop sticks were unsuccessful, with the car continuing to drive on the interstate at speeds of around 100mph.
The pursuit continued to Albertville, but it was abandoned when officers were informed there was a child in the vehicle.
Police eventually caught up to them, though, in heavy traffic. This time the stop sticks succeeded in slowing the car.
The man driving was apprehended after fleeing on foot, and when they got to the car police found three children, the youngest just three months old with the others aged 2 and 5.
The children were released unharmed to family members.
The couple have been booked into jail on felony charges of theft, with the man also facing charges of child endangerment and robbery.
We are not identifying the couple at this stage as they have not been formally charged with a crime.
