The 20-year-old daughter of write-in candidate Erik Simonson for House district 7B in Duluth tells the Duluth News Tribune that her father abandoned her when she was two years old. Leah Simonson condemns her father's actions claiming that they are no better than the recent sex tryst involving Rep. Kerry Gauthier.

Erik Simonson responded to the claims saying his absence from his daughter's life was a mutual decision with his ex-wife when they divorced in 1993 and he continued to pay child support.

Politics in Minnesota reports that Simonson seems to be the favorite among DFLers and labor groups in West Duluth and is the likely choice for endorsement at a convention Saturday morning.

State Rep. Kerry Gauthier dropped his bid for re-election last month after he admitted to engaging in oral sex with a 17-year-old boy at a rest stop in July.
