This weekend brought the first multi-day rock music festival to Harriet Island since Taste of Minnesota died with a sparsely attended whimper two years ago. The River's Edge Music Fest enjoyed much bigger crowds and lots of raves on Twitter.
River's Edge ... the next Lollapalooza?
Event promoters aim to make the new River's Edge Music Festival a high-profile destination event akin to California's Coachella or Lollapalooza in downtown Chicago. Will it stack up? We'll know soon. The weekend-long outdoor concert on downtown St. Paul's Harriet Island, featuring the Dave Matthews Band among many others, launches Saturday.
St. Paul grants noise variance to zombie fest
How loud can the walking dead get? At least a few neighbors of Midway Stadium in St. Paul fear revelers at the planned Zombie Pub Crawl VIII on Oct. 13 could get pretty noisy. Organizers are even hoping that it could qualify for a world record gathering of zombies. But the city has granted a noise variance for the 2-to-midnight event, the Pioneer Press reports.
New signage rules frustrating St. Paul businesses
St. Paul leaders say the rules are meant to help keep things safe and attractive. KSTP reports only 30 percent of a window can be covered, allowing customers and employees to clearly see in and out of a business. The St. Paul Chamber of Commerce opposed the rules worried new businesses won't consider opening in the capital city. The new ordinance goes into effect on February 8.
New farmers market to open in St. Paul
The Capitol Farmers Market debuts Friday, June 29, south of the State Capitol building. About 30 vendors will feature locally grown produce, meats, flowers and other products. The market will be open every Friday through September 28.
