Dayton heading to Norway next weekend to honor troop exchange

Author:

Gov. Mark Dayton is traveling abroad next weekend to celebrate a 40-year-old troop exchange program between Minnesota and Norway, The Associated Press reports.

Dayton will be heading to Norway Feb. 22 for an event Feb. 23. He will be back in Minnesota Feb. 24.

Under the Norway Exchange program, 100 Minnesota troops travel to Norway every year for cold-weather training, and troops from Norway's Home Guard travel to Camp Ripley in Minnesota for training.

An official with Minnesota National Guard says its the oldest such troop exchange program in the world.

Dayton will host a similar celebration in Minneapolis Sunday in conjunction with a visit by Norway's ambassador and defense chief. Troops from both Minnesota and Norway will be at the events.
