Gov. Mark Dayton on Tuesday plans to sign a bill that would rename an 11-mile stretch of State Highway 23 for fallen Cold Spring police officer Tom Decker, the Associated Press reports.

Dayton was scheduled to sign the legislation at a ceremony with members of the Decker family and local officials, the AP says. The road from Richmond to Cold Spring will officially be known as "Tom Decker Memorial Highway."

The Legislature unanimously approved the measure last week.

Decker, a 31-year-old father of four, was killed on Nov. 29 when he responded to a call. The investigation is still open and no one has been charged in the case. Eric J. Thomes, 31, who had come under repeated questioning for the shooting, killed himself Jan. 2, but investigators have not formally said that they believe he was the killer.

His widow told the St. Cloud Times in a recent interview that the last four months have been difficult.

His widow and the mother of his children have been involved in a dispute over who should be the recipient of memorial donations.
