DFLer joins race for Bachmann's seat

A Circle Pines environmental activist plans to run for Congress in Minnesota’s 6th District, the first DFLer to announce a bid for the seat, the Associated Press reported. The seat in the right-leaning district is currently held by Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, who announced last month that she will not seek a fifth term.

Judy Adams, who has never run for office before, said Monday she will run as a problem solver and political outsider, the AP reported. Adams, who has been active in efforts to reduce lead contamination, said her years of activism have helped her understand the political process.

Adams calls herself “the lead-prevention lady,” the St. Cloud Times reports. She says she works as a painter and lead remodeler and has used her expertise on those issues to lobby Minnesota lawmakers to change state lead laws.

Adams said she and most voters are tired of partisan bickering, the St. Cloud Times reports. “We’re supposed to be solving problems,” Adams said.

Adams said she earns a living caring for senior citizens with Alzheimer’s Disease, the AP reports.

Just a few days after Bachmann dropped out of the race, her DFL opponent Jim Graves also suspended his campaign, leaving the race wide open. GOP candidate Tom Emmer, former gubernatorial candidate, last week announced that he would seek Bachmann's seat.
