Diamond Reynolds gets $675,000 from St. Anthony in settlement

The settlement stems from the shooting death of Philando Castile.

Diamond Reynolds will get $675,000 from the City of St. Anthony as part of a settlement stemming from the Philando Castile shooting.

The city announced the agreement Tuesday, saying the payment will "settle claims for emotional distress and false arrest." Some of the money will go to Reynolds' daughter, in a trust to pay for future schooling.

The settlement means the city will avoid any further legal action from Reynolds related to the death of Castile, her boyfriend. And it will "avoid further burden and expense" to the city, the agreement says.

Reynolds had brought up concerns with the city regarding the use of force, her detainment by police, emotional distress, and racial discrimination under the Minnesota Human Rights Act, according to the agreement.

The settlement does not mean the city or anyone else is admitting to guilt.

Reynolds will also get $125,000 combined from the City of Roseville and League of Minnesota Cities, bringing the total to $800,000.

Charges against Jeronimo Yanez reveal Philando Castile's final moments

Less than 2 minutes after being stopped, Castile was bleeding in the front seat, dying from gunshots fired by St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez while Reynolds livestreamed the aftermath on Facebook.

Yanez, who has since been fired by the city, was found not guilty on June 16, 2017, of manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm.

One of the seven shots Yanez fired into the car hit the arm rest between Castile and Reynolds; another struck the back seat, though not where Reynolds' daughter was sitting.
