Diamond Reynolds is looking for a fresh start after Philando Castile's death

Publish date:

Diamond Reynolds is trying to get her life back on track after her boyfriend was fatally shot by police on July 6.

Reynolds was in the car with Philando Castile and her 4-year-old daughter when Castile was pulled over, and then fatally shot by a St. Anthony police officer. She streamed the aftermath of the shooting live on Facebook.

She spoke with the Washington Post about how she's coping following Castile's death and the 10-minute video – in which she was described as being dignified and calm – that has "come to define her."

Reynolds talked to the paper about her struggles over the past two months, like finding a new apartment to get a fresh start for her and her daughter.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is currently investigating Castile's death, and once its investigation is complete it'll be handed over to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office for review.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi will decide "at a later time" whether his office or a grand jury will weigh possible charges against officer Jeronimo Yanez in connection to the shooting.
