Burning restrictions take effect next week
Minnesota's DNR will restrict burning across much of the state beginning Monday the 26th. The agency says the fire danger will increase quickly in the next week, as the last of the snow melts and winds dry out grass and brush. Campfires will still be allowed but burning yard waste or other brush will not be permitted.

Only those with variance permits can burn legally in the restricted counties.
DNR requiring burn permits for most of Minnesota
Fire officials are concerned with the extremely dry conditions and the potential for a dangerous fire season this spring. The Star Tribune reports the DNR began requiring permits for open burning this week because of the lack of snow cover. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of Minnesota is experiencing some degree of drought.
DNR lifting campfire restrictions across Minnesota
The Department of Natural Resources says recent rains, cool weather and higher humidity are making it less likely for campfires to cause wildfires.

The DNR has is urging people to be careful with outdoor fires and requiring them to obtain a permit before burning brush because of unseasonably dry conditions. A fire on Monday in Polk County burned 750 acres of woods and land. Permits are available from local fire wardens or the DNR.
