Do they make that here? New 'Made in Minnesota' directory will tell you

A new online tool will help Minnesota businesses and consumers find locally-made products.

As MinnPost reports, the state has rolled out a searchable directory of goods that are Made in Minnesota.

The Department of Employment and Economic Development put together the searchable database and says it lists about 600 Minnesota manufacturers. Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben says the list will encourage businesses to tap local supply chains.

Here's the database, which can be searched by product, company name, or county.

A reporter with the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal writes that he tested it by searching for "plastic injection molding." The 39 listings it returned included a description and some background on each company as well as contact information, the Journal says.

It's a busy week over at DEED. This is Minnesota Manufacturers Week and the department is touting a sector of the economy that employs 300,000 people -- about one out of every nine Minnesota workers.
