St. Paul police say he broke into a home on the 400 block of Hatch Avenue, rummaged through the homeowner's belongings for about 20 minutes, and then left with a cellphone, a PlayStation, a video camera and several DVDs.

Apparently the suspect didn't realize surveillance footage from the camera he took had been stored, Steve Linders, of the St. Paul Police Department, told MPR News.

So police got several pretty clear photos of the suspect, which they released on Facebook Thursday.

"He saw the camera, he took a nice selfie of himself for us, which we're sharing with the public," Linders told MPR News.

The Pioneer Press reports the incident happened Aug. 21. The camera captured the suspect climbing through a ground-level window of the home while the people who live there were upstairs asleep, the paper adds.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the photos to call police at 651-266-5771.

Before Tuesday's fatal shooting of 5-year-old Nizzel George at a north Minneapolis home, police had been called to the house four times this year. Police records show 10 calls for service to the home last year and 17 in 2010. But the boy's grandmother disputes that there is a connection between the shooting and anyone in the home.
