Donations missing from medical benefit fundraiser

A Linwood, Minn. woman believes a thief stole donations from a benefit that was supposed to help her pay large medical bills and a future lung transplant.

KMSP reports that Heidi Willcocks has Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis, a respiratory condition that leaves her breathless and unable to work. Friends organized a barn dance to provide financial relief. The July 28th event in Wyoming, Minn. included a dance with live music, catered dinner and silent auction. Her husband Jeff works as an EMT at North Memorial and the hospital planned to match a portion of the donations.

At the end of the evening, the couple found only three checks in the card box.

"We figured at somebody at some point in time, somebody got into the card box, turned it upside down, reached in, grabbed what they could and ran," husband Jeff Willcocks said.

"It feels like somebody took the wind right out of you, even though I can't breathe very well anyway," Willcocks said.

Police are still seeking the wedding crashers, a trio of well dressed wedding guests who have stolen card boxes while attending at least three metro area weddings this summer.
