Driver killed after dump truck is hit by freight train in southern MN


A driver has died after his dump truck was struck by a train in Freeborn County.

The incident happened at around 4 p.m. Wednesday near Alden, when the westbound Canadian Pacific Railroad train crashed into the truck as it crossed the tracks at an uncontrolled intersection.

The truck driver, a 67-year-old man from Albert Lea, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Freeborn County Sheriff's Office says nobody on the train was injured and that the crash is under investigation.

Alden Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Alden Fire, Freeborn Ambulance and Allen's Tow 'N' Travel assisted at the scene.
