Driver pulled from car after it crashes, becomes engulfed in flames

Firefighters pulled a man from a burning car after a crash in Minneapolis.

Officers found the car engulfed in flames with severe damage to the front end, the Minneapolis Police Department said, just before 12:30 a.m. at Highway 55 and Bryant Avenue.

Police spokesperson John Elder told BringMeTheNews the vehicle struck a post.

The Fire Department was able to free the driver, an adult male, using a "jaws of life" device, Elder said.

The driver was then taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in "very critical" condition.

Police said it's not known at this point what might have led to the crash.
