App aids motorists in navigating roads in Minn., Iowa

The information superhighway will have a new source to guide motorists as they navigate the real highways in the region.

Midway through the busy summer travel season, the Star Tribune reports that a new smart phone app from the Minnesota Department of Transportation is available. It will provide information about Minnesota highway construction, crashes and other road incidents. MnDot officials say it can be an important tool to assist drivers who use their smartphones or to help plot driving routes.

Meanwhile, KEYC-TV in Mankato reports that the Iowa Department of Transportation has designed an app for smartphones and tablets that organizes the agency's multiple other apps. Officials say "myIowaDOT" helps users find all agency resources under one app so they won't have to search for each individual app.

Both applications are free.
