If you're not familiar with satirical website Barstool Sports, its founder Dave Portnoy (aka El Pres) is well-known for his one-bite pizza reviews.
In town for Kyle Rudolph's celebrity golf tournament, Portnoy's latest video saw him try out Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza in Minneapolis' North Loop, after hearing from readers it's the best pizza in the Twin Cities.
He embarks upon a very brief but complimentary (he gave it 8.3/10) review of the pizza and a longer rant about Minnesota (includes backhanded compliments and shout-outs the North Stars and Fran Tarkenton). It's been viewed more than 370,000 times since Sunday.
While the review is a fun watch, what we find more interesting is the debate it generated on Barstool's Facebook page, seeking to answer the question: "Who makes Minnesota's best pizza?"
We're pretty sure this is a debate that could continue to the end of days without an answer, but that doesn't stop people from engaging – we've picked out some of the pizza joints name-dropped by commenters:
– "Red Rabbit on 201 N Washington... spicy salmi pizza ???? you're welcome!"
– "Sammy's Pizza ... in Elk River and Coon Rapids. It's a drive for anybody in the downtown area, but I promise it's worth the experience."
– "If you choose any place other than Red Savoys on Lafayette and 7th in St Paul you're all wrong!!"
– "Check out Pizzeria Lola while you're in town. Some of the best pizza you will ever have."
Here's Portnoy's Barstool Pizza Review of Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza.
