Duluth girl donates her Christmas presents to kids in need

An 8-year-old from Duluth won't have presents under the tree this year – and it's not because she made Santa's naughty list.

Anna Stanley decided to give her Christmas presents away this year to help people in need.

Stanley has asked people to donate all the money that would have gone towards buying her gifts, according to the Salvation Army. The donations are then being used to make stuffed toys for kids who might not otherwise get holiday presents.

The Salvation Army says Stanley chose to use the money to make the stuffed toys at the Build-A-Bear Workshop in Duluth's Miller Hill Mall because it's her favorite place to be.

When the store heard the story of a young girl giving her Christmas presents away, they asked her to help build one-hundred more bears to donate, the Duluth News Tribune reports.  Stanley accepted the offer and was "hired."

Stanley finished her job Saturday and made the last sixteen stuffed animals, the Salvation Army says. She bought six of those bears with her own money and then the store donated the rest.

The Salvation Army says its Northern Division, which serves Minnesota and North Dakota, gives away about 202,000 Christmas toys each year.
