Duluth group falls short of snow angels record

Nearly 1,900 people spread their wings in the Duluth snow Saturday, but it wasn't nearly enough to set a new world record for the number of snow angels.

According to the Duluth News Tribune, 1,877 participants were at the "Make Your Mark: Angels for a Cause" event at Duluth's Malosky Stadium, leaving the current Guinness World Record of 8,962 snow angels set in 2007 in Bismarck, N.D., firmly intact.

While event organizers Rotary of Duluth Club 25 and the Proctor High School DECA club didn't seize the record, the turnout still resulted in a good cause.

Event spokeswoman Crystal Taylor said about $14,000 was raised to help provide clean drinking water for the Hamar, an indigenous people in Ethiopia.

Taylor said the event had "such a great energy and vibe."
