A Duluth man driving a stolen vehicle led officers on a 60-mile-long high speed chase Thursday night.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, authorities saw a vehicle without license plates traveling 90 mph in Canosia Township, which is just northwest of Duluth.

The vehicle sped through intersections, and officials say it posed "an imminent threat to public safety."

Officers say they tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver – identified as 23-year-old Sean Patrick Saylor Jr. – would not stop.

Saylor continued driving west to Floodwood, which is about halfway to Grand Rapids. Then he turned south and proceeded into Carlton County.

Officers say a deputy there was able to use a device to deflate one of the tires. And after 60 miles, the pursuit came to an end.

Officials found that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Hermantown on Wednesday, but the driver fled Duluth police that night.

Authorities say Saylor has a "long history of police contact."

Saylor has been taken to the St. Louis County Jail and faces up to five charges for reckless driving, fleeing police, and driving a stolen vehicle.
