A 20-year-old Eagan man faces more than two dozen misdemeanor charges for allegedly taking photos of juvenile girls without their knowledge and posting them to an online photo-sharing site based in Russia.
Tyler Michael Sauve is charged with 21 counts of disorderly conduct, five counts of criminal defamation of character and one count of public nuisance, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
The girls were clothed and the images were not pornographic, but some comments posted with the photos were sexual in nature, according to a statement from the Eagan Police Department, which added that Sauve did not have any physical contact with the girls.
Police say they were tipped off to the case by an investigator from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, who was working on an unrelated case. The investigator had found more than 2,000 images on a Russian photo-sharing website that could be traced back to Sauve.
The photos included pictures of Sauve, a 13-year-old relative and a number of other preteen girls, according to the criminal complaint. There were also photos of the buttocks of several female employees at a Jimmy John's restaurant.
Many of the photos were taken in the Country Hollow neighborhood of Eagan, Sauve told police.
Sauve told police he posted the photos between December 2013 and June 2014. Police say he has removed the photos from the website. According to the complaint, Sauve acknowledged to police that he was "sneaky" about taking the photos and did so without the girls' knowledge, WCCO reports.
Sauve was investigated by the Eagan Police Department in 2010 for a separate unrelated incident, according to the department, but the details about that case are not public because he was a juvenile at the time.
Sauve is not currently in custody. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Dakota County District Court on Oct. 27.
