Activists rallied for Earth Day at the Minnesota Capitol on Monday afternoon (just as Mother Nature throws another snow storm our way). The local event will focus on clean energy and jobs, MinnPost reports. Among the speakers expected is Gov. Mark Dayton.
Meanwhile, businesses were offering a number of Earth Day freebies on Monday, including a free cup of Caribou coffee with a reusable cup, KARE 11 reports.
This is the 43rd anniversary of the global awareness day and this year focuses on climate change, the Washington Post reports.
Earth Day 2013 also falls nearly on the three-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, one of the largest environmental disasters in U.S. history.
