Eau Claire, Wis. is second in the nation in the percentage of new construction, mining and logging jobs.

The Associated Press cites figures from the Associated General Contractors of America that showed 4,200 construction jobs in June, up 31 percent from the previous year. Projects at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, manufacturing plant expansions, highway work and a new county jail contributed to the jump. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that a frack sand processing plant also came online in the last year.

Pascagoula, Miss., was stronger with a 33 percent gain tied to shipyards.
