Ecolab appoints Handley to president and chief operating officer

Thomas Handley is being promoted to replace Erik Fyrwald who left the company in April, the Business Journal reports. Handley joined the St. Paul-based maker of cleaning, sanitation, pest elimination and maintenance products in 2003. He was most recently the president of its Global Food & Beverage division and Asia Pacific Latin America businesses.

Thomas Handley is being promoted to replace Erik Fyrwald who left the company in April, the Business Journal reports. Handley joined the St. Paul-based maker of cleaning, sanitation, pest elimination and maintenance products in 2003. He was most recently the president of its Global Food & Beverage division and Asia Pacific Latin America businesses.

Chief Financial Officer Steve Fritze is also retiring and will step down Oct. 1 after 32 years with Ecolab, according to the Star Tribune. Daniel Schmechel, executive vice president of finance, is being promoted and will take over the CFO duties.

In July, Ecolab reported its second-quarter earnings jumped 47 percent and sales surged 74 percent following its acquisition of liquid filtration giant Nalco.

Layoffs could begin as soon as January. Some employees may be able to work from home or take other jobs at Ecolab locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois or Indiana.

Ecolab's net income, sales surge in third quarter

Ecolab Inc., the St. Paul-based cleaning and pest-control giant, says its net sales jumped 74 percent to $3 billion in the third quarter, RTTNews.com reports. Net income was also up 54 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.

Carlson names Rautio as new chief executive officer

The Minnetonka-based global hospitality and travel company has promoted Trudy Rautio as president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. For the past eight years, Rautio has served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Carlson. She is replacing Hubert Joly who resigned to take the top job at Richfield-based Best Buy. Rautio is only the fifth chief executive of the 74-year-old hospitality and travel company.

Valspar looking for new chief financial officer, Walker to retire

Valspar Corporation's CFO Lori Walker plans to retire after 12 years with the Minneapolis-based maker of paints and industrial coatings, the Twin Cities Business reports. According to a company news release, Walker will remain with Valspar until a successor is named and “available to the company for an extended period thereafter to ensure a seamless transition.”
