Ed Sheeran will play the Xcel Energy Center this summer.

The British singer-songwriter will take to the stage in St. Paul on Saturday, July 1, the arena announced on Wednesday.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m.

The announcement comes after the release of his new album, Divide, which was released this past Friday and, according to Billboard, the songs on the album have already passed a billion views on YouTube.

The single "Shape of You" is currently number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been for more than six weeks.

He was last in the Twin Cities two years ago, when he brought his "one-man band" to the Xcel.

The Star Tribune reported that he performed before more than 14,500 fans with nothing but himself, an acoustic guitar and "a small science lab of vocal and instrument looping devices."

He hit the big time in 2011 with the single "The A Team" and has been on a roll ever since, selling out arenas across the world and becoming close friends with Taylor Swift, whose 2013 single "Everything Has Changed" featured Sheeran as a vocalist and co-writer.
