An Edina High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave amid a child pornography investigation.

This marks the second high-profile child porn case involving a Minnesota educator in recent days, with a Bemidji assistant school principal pleading guilty to possessing illicit images last week.

On Tuesday, Edina Public Schools acknowledged that it had suspended a 49-year-old teacher following the execution of a search warrant at Edina High.

According to the search warrant, the case started when the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received two "CyberTips" from ChatStep, an anonymous chat room service.

The reports regarded images "of minor females naked or partially naked in sexual positions," wrote the agent who investigated the tips. "The victims were approximately 6-8 years old."

When investigators confronted the teacher at his home last week, he admitted to being attracted to girls "in the range of 10-15 years old" and that he's possessed and distributed child pornography for "several years," the warrant says.

District officials say they have "no knowledge" that he abused any students, the Star Tribune reports.

GoMN does not name suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.

In a statement received by GoMN, Edina Public Schools says it has begun an investigation of its own, "pursuant to policy and law."

"We understand that any such news about a school district employee is unsettling," the district's letter adds. "We take all allegations against our staff seriously and remain committed to providing safe, enriching learning environment for all students."
