A person trying to get rid of some wasps inadvertently started a Moose Lake house on fire.

The Duluth News Tribune reports no one was injured when the flames caught the back of the house on fire then spread to the attic. The fire was quickly put out once firefighters arrived, but the home suffered some smoke damage as well.

The University of Minnesota Extension recommends using a strong insecticidal spray to get rid of wasp nests near dwellings. A riskier method involves covering the nest with a plastic bag. There is no method listed for using fire to eradicate the insects.
