Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison was arrested Tuesday during a rally in support of comprehensive immigration reform.
Ellison and a group of several other House Democrats sat in the middle of Independence Avenue and blocked traffic while protestors marched toward the U.S. Capitol, according to a report in the Star Tribune.
Fox 9 reports Ellison was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. along with a group of seven other lawmakers.
KARE 11 says the rally is in support of a bill that supporters want passed by the end of the year. It would address a path to citizenship and border control. The issue has been overshadowed by the recent government shutdown and debt ceiling debate.
Ellison is expected to be released after paying a $50 fine. There are not any other court hearings or legal action expected.
