Fields humbly accepted the GOP endorsement and will now look to challenge incumbent Rep. Ellison for his congressional seat. Ellison has represented Minnesota's Fifth District since 2007.

Freshman Minnesota Republican Chip Cravaack released his campaign finance report Friday, which revealed that he has $898,681 in cash on hand for his re-election bid for the traditionally DFL-leaning congressional district in northern Minnesota. The figure is more than triple the amount Former Sen. Tarryl Clark has, who is expected to be the top fundraiser among three DFLers competing in an Aug. 14 primary.

There was apparent communication between Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and her Democratic Congressional colleague Keith Ellison before Bachmann's recent claims that Ellison had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood on a nationally syndicated talk show. But in her 16-page letter to Ellison, Bachman never raised suspicions about his alleged ties to the organization.

Republican candidate Chris Fields wants to make this fall's election a referendum on race, the Star Tribune reports. Both he and 5th District Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., are black. Fields says Ellison has failed his black constituents, which Ellison strongly denies. "I'm fighting for the whole district," the third-term incumbent says.

Congressman Keith Ellison is circulating a resolution opposing a voter ID requirement and is urging Democrats to adopt it at their precinct caucuses Tuesday. Republicans in the Legislature hope to put the issue on Minnesota's ballot in November. Ellison says Americans who don't have photo IDs should still be allowed to vote.
