Ethanol plant near Albert Lea damaged in explosion, 2 workers injured

An explosion at an ethanol plant in southern Minnesota early Sunday morning injured two employees.

KTTC reports the explosion occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at the POET ethanol plant in Glenville, just south of Albert Lea.

Four employees were at the plant when the explosion occurred, and two of them were injured, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office.

The two were taken to a hospital in Albert Lea for treatment, and have since been released, according to KTTC.

The building suffered some damage, but the extent of it is not yet clear, sheriff's officials said, according to ABC 6 News.

They also don't yet know what caused the explosion.
