Birdwatchers, the wait is over. The Minnesota DNR's falcon webcam is back and live with a higher quality camera.

A new fish-eye camera gives viewers a look at Jill, the mama bird, and her newly hatched chicks. Two of three eggs are hatched now, according to the DNR, and the others could follow any day now.

The DNR says Jill, who has made the box atop the Bremer Bank Building in downtown St. Paul her home for years now, has been through a lot.

"She is a tough female," it said. "She lost part of her beak two years ago in a territorial battle. She has adjusted to this handicap enough to successfully feed herself and her chicks."

Jill has a new mate this year, and the DNR notes viewers can identify the male because it isn't wearing a band.

The falcon camera is run by the DNR's Nongame Wildlife Program. The box first opened in 1987, with a pair of falcons first nesting in their home. Through 2012, 65 chicks have nested in the box.

The DNR's peregrine falcon project is working to restore the population across the state and has 53 sites across the state housing falcon families.

According to the DNR, peregrine falcons are the fastest birds in the world and can fly more than 224 miles per hour.

The DNR also monitors a Eagle Cam, where three bald eagles hatched earlier this year. The DNR says the chicks should fledge any day now and are ready to leave the nest.
