The family involved in the fire at their Fridley home have identified the 24-year-old occupant who died.

DJ Wasserman was asleep in his bedroom when fire broke out at the home at 340 Hugo St. NE. on Tuesday evening.

His father Al, sister Nora, and her boyfriend were able to escape the blaze safely, but Wasserman sadly died.

His sister, Rachel Mae Dolan, has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral costs and "give my family a little bit of comfort at a time when their faith is non-existent."

On the page, she reveals that her sister Nora's dog also died in the fire, as did two pet guinea pigs. Three of the families other dogs made it out.

She pays tribute to her brother, whom she describes as "a great kid who would do anything for anyone who asked."

"He loved music of all kinds, and enjoyed watching hockey, football, and movies," she continued, saying he was a man who "worked hard" – recently earning a promotion – and saved what he made.

Investigators believe that the cause of the fire was cooking-related, with KSTP reporting they think a grease fire started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house.
