Family seeks answers in death of boy pulled from school pool

The family of a St. Louis Park middle school student who died after being pulled from the school's pool is seeking answers.

Abdullahl Charif, 12, died Friday after a teacher pulled the unresponsive boy from the pool just before 9 a.m. Thursday. Police said the incident happened after a physical education class had wrapped up.

On Sunday afternoon, Charif's family and the Somali community came together to mourn their loss.

"We're all grieving and we just buried the son," Ali Warsame, Charif's father, told FOX 9. "I'm a little emotional, but I really appreciate the Somali community supporting us."

Charif's family is frustrated as they wait for more information on how he died.

"Imagine sending your son to school and the next minute, you are being told he died at 12 years old," Asha Ahmed, Charif's aunt, told FOX 9.

St. Louis Park officials have not released many details since Charif was pulled from the pool, but a spokesman for the St. Louis Park Department said the investigation into the boy's death is ongoing. The police department hopes to have more information this week, according to KTSP.

Charif's family members said he didn't know how to swim, according to FOX 9.
