Minnesota leadfoots headed to the Badger State are sure to rejoice at the new speed limit signs going up not only in Wisconsin, but also on a stretch of highway leading from the Twin Cities to the state line.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is raising the speed limit on part of Interstate 94 – the nine miles between the I-494/694 split in Woodbury to the Wisconsin border – from 65 miles per hour to 70, the Pioneer Press reports.

According to the paper, MnDOT says the change will create "better traffic flow" between the two states.

Crews will start installing the new signs on Tuesday, WCCO reports.

Perhaps best of all is that when drivers arrive in Wisconsin, they won't have to pump the brakes – this week, 70 mph signs will also appear on more than 800 miles of highway there, WCCO says.

The change comes after the Wisconsin Legislature passed a bill last month raising the speed limit from 65 mph – specifically, the new law affects only four-lane roads with entrance and exit ramps, as opposed to those with “at-grade” access.
