A head-on crash on U.S. Highway 14 near Dodge Center killed three people and injured a fourth Tuesday evening, the Rochester Post Bulletin reports.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports a 43-year-old man from Zap, N.D., and his 10-year-old son died. A 53-year-old man from West Concord was also killed died in the accident. His 39-year-old wife was taken to the hospital with not life-threatening injuries.

Student was texting prior to fatal crash

Law enforcement officials and the family of Deianerah "D.J." Logan's on Tuesday said an investigation indicates she was writing a text message at the time her car struck a stopped school bus, the Rochester Post-Bulletin reports. The 17-year-old died in the crash on the first day of her senior year in high school. "We all have a lot of distractions when we drive," the teen's father said, "and this particular distraction is what cost our daughter her life."

Man charged in triple fatal crash released on $50K conditional bail

The 21-year-old man suspected of killing three people in a head-on collision east of Willmar Friday night is out of the Kandiyohi County Jail on $50,000 bond, KARE 11 reports. Paul Wickenhauser of Cokato is being electronically monitored. He's facing four felony charges of criminal vehicular homicide and injury for the fiery crash. Investigators accuse Wickenhauser of striking a minivan after he crossed the center line.

Prominent ND cattleman, son with brain cancer killed in crash

Jack Reich, 43, of Zap, N.D., who recently served as the North Dakota Stockmen's Association president, was among the three killed in a crash near Dodge Center on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. His son, 10-year-old Vander, was also killed. They were returning from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where a tumor was removed from the boy's brain after he was diagnosed with cancer Oct. 22. Their vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck on Highway 14, and the pickup driver also died.
