Fergus Falls armored-truck driver charged with pilfering cash

A 21-year-old Fergus Falls man has been charged with looting ATMs across west-central Minnesota while he was on the clock driving an armored truck.

The Alexandria Echo Press reports that Christopher James Diestler was charged on July 16 with one count of bank larceny. Diestler was arrested on July 17 and made his initial appearance Thursday in federal court.

The indictment includes accusations that Deistler had a seven-year run, beginning in 2005 (how old was he when he started?), that led to$182,350 stolen from ATMs in Alexandria, Breckenridge, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, and in Wahpeton, North Dakota.

The charges say he mostly hit Bremer Bank ATMs, but also ones for Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank, according to the paper. Invesitgators say he pulled of the heists while doing his job.

For that, says the Echo Press, Deistler faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in a federal pen.
