Fire destroys metro-area shooting range and gun shop

The range's Facebook page says the roof over the range collapsed.

Lakes Trading Company Gun Shop and Range in Forest Lake burned down in a large fire Monday night.

According to the company's Facebook page, everyone got out safe but the roof over the shooting range collapsed. The building was a total loss due to smoke and water damage, Washington County officials say.

Video of the fire shows how large it got.

The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. and Forest Lake PD advised people stay clear of the area around 95 SW. 8th Ave. while about 75 firefighters from Forest Lake, Wyoming, Hugo, White Bear Lake and Lino Lakes fire departments worked to put it out.

The cause of the fire is unknown but nothing suspicious is suspected.

"Tonight has been a sad and difficult night for all of us here at Lakes," the owners wrote on Facebook, adding how grateful they are that everyone is OK.

The store is asking for help cleaning up guns that were recovered from the building. Anyone interested is asked to message them on Facebook.

Lakes Trading Company's website describes the business as a live-fire shooting range that offers "safe, family-friendly firearm education and practices to increase your knowledge and skill level."
