Ridgedale Macy's reopens after roof fire

A fire that broke out in the roof of Macy's at the Ridgedale Mall Tuesday morning was put out shortly before noon, leaving minimal damage, Minnesota Public Radio reports.

Firefighters from multiple departments were called to the mall off Interstate 394 in Minnetonka around 10:45 a.m.

Macy's Vice President of Media Andrea Schwartz told KARE 11 that the fire started at the construction site of a new expansion project on the north side of the mall, prompting the evacuation of both Macy's and the adjoining Lakeshore Grill.

The rest of the mall remained open.

Minnetonka Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Fox says the fire covered a 50-feet-by-50-feet area of the roof, the Star Tribune reports.

MPR says there were no injuries reported and no merchandise was damaged.

The store reopened to shoppers around 3 p.m.
