5-year-old girl fights for her life after freak farm accident

A young girl who got caught in farm machinery is in a critical condition in intensive care after suffering injuries that doctors say would have killed an adult.

Five-year-old Savhannah Springer was pinched between the hitch of a haybine and the hitch of a tractor on Monday morning at her family farm in Henning, east of Fergus Falls, KSTP reports.

She was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center after suffering terrible injuries, including severe damage to her abdomen, severed blood vessels in her left leg and a fractured pelvis.

Her mom Brittany Springer has been updating family on her situation through a GoFundMe page, which revealed that she has already undergone several surgeries.

Her mother and father, Stephen Springer, were told by doctors that she would have died from her injuries had she been an adult, WDAY reports, but hopefully now has a chance of making a full recovery.

They told the TV station that she was just trying to help out on the farm, something she loves to do, adding: "Five years isn't long enough and God has a way bigger plan for her than 5 short years."

The latest update on GoFundMe, posted on Wednesday, says that Savhannah has been communicating with her parents by nodding and shaking her head, and has been moving her arms and facial muscles.

She was due to undergo another surgery Thursday morning on her legs – still swollen from previous surgeries – to relieve some of the pressure on the tissue and muscle that's being caused by a loss of circulation.

The GoFundMe account has so far raised more than $13,000 to help towards her recovery.

"Stephen and I just want to say that we are so thankful and humbled by the outpouring of love, support and prayers as well as help and donations," her mother said on the page. "Her room is looking amazing with gifts, cards, balloons etc. Thank you all so much. I'm so excited for her to see all the love you all are sending!!"
