A lot of rain is forecast to hit southern Minnesota.

Starting Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service says the entire southeastern portion of the state is under a flash flood watch.

Heavy rain is expected to start Tuesday evening, bringing up to 2-4 inches to some areas.

According to NWS's flash flood watch, the skies are expected to clear for a bit Wednesday morning. But storms are predicted to redevelop in the afternoon and evening.

The areas around Rochester, Red Wing, and Albert Lea are expected to get the most rain – up to five inches by Thursday morning, when the flash flood watch expires.

Because Minnesota was hit with a lot of rain this summer, river levels are already higher than normal. The NWS says that any additional heavy rainfall – such as expected with this storm – will contribute to a significant risk of flooding.

This active weather pattern we’re in is expected to continue through the weekend, the National Weather Service says. Things are expected to dry out Thursday (the first day of fall), but more rain is in the forecast for the weekend.
