Neighbors near the Red Roof Inn in Woodbury are pushing to get the business closed in the aftermath of a fatal shooting of a hostage during a police standoff last week, reports KMSP-TV.
Mark Eric Henderson, 19, of St. Paul was shot by police Sept. 1 as he fled from a motel room at the Red Roof Inn where Demetrius Ballinger, 25, allegedly commandeered a room full of hostages. Police said Henderson walked toward them and did not comply with their commands.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that Henderson was not armed.
One of the crusaders who wants Red Roof Inn shut down claims criminal activity has become too commonplace at motel, and tells KMSP that police have been called there 290 times last year. The inn claims the police visits were routine or informational in nature
Ballinger was charged Tuesday with 27 separate felony counts in the standoff.
