Neighbors near the Red Roof Inn in Woodbury are pushing to get the business closed in the aftermath of a fatal shooting of a hostage during a police standoff last week, reports KMSP-TV.

Mark Eric Henderson, 19, of St. Paul was shot by police Sept. 1 as he fled from a motel room at the Red Roof Inn where Demetrius Ballinger, 25, allegedly commandeered a room full of hostages. Police said Henderson walked toward them and did not comply with their commands.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that Henderson was not armed.

Ballinger was charged Tuesday with 27 separate felony counts in the standoff.

A Stillwater man was charged Tuesday with 27 separate felony counts in connection with a Red Roof Inn standoff with police involving hostages, which ultimately ended with an officer fatally shooting a man who had been a hostage, KARE 11 reports. Police say a man died in an early-morning shooting and hostage situation Friday in Woodbury, KARE 11 reports. Police were called to the Red Roof Inn off Valley Creek Road and Interstate 494 at about 1:30 a.m. Friday on a report of multiple shots fired. Officers scramabled to evacuate the hotel, then negotiated with the alleged gunman, who was holding as many as nine hostages, according to initial reports. After about four hours, he was taken into custody.
