Our pets' heads aren't falling off, but some steering wheels are and that's a big problem for owners of two types of Ford cars.
The problem forced Ford to issue a recall of 1.3 million Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. If you own a 2014-18 Fusion or Lincoln MKZ and it was manufactured at any of the below plants, bring it in as soon as possible.
– 2014-17 Ford Fusions built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Aug. 6, 2013 to Feb. 29, 2016.
– 2014-18 Ford Fusions built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 25, 2013 to March 5, 2018.
– 2014-18 Lincoln MKZs built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 25, 2013 to March 5, 2018.
Ford says there is a bolt in the steering column that can loosen over time and cause the steering wheel to detach. It's happened on at least two occasions, resulting in one injury crash.
If you know of someone with an affect vehicle, get them to bring it in to a Ford dealership and they'll fix the problem at no charge.
