Despite the fact that we have a whole library of digital books available at the tips of our fingers – print book sales keep going up.
The research company NPD Group published the results of a Trends and Findings in Children’s Bookselling report earlier this month, explaining print book sales went up 3 percent between 2015 and 2016.
This is the fourth consecutive year print sales have been on the rise.
The news release notes the findings do not take into consideration higher education books, and the growth was primarily driven by increases in sales of non-fiction, children’s, and adult coloring books.
The largest unit growth was in non-fiction – it increased by 7 percent. Fiction, on the other hand, dropped by a percentage. It would have been down a lot more if not for the 13 percent growth in comics and graphic novels, NPD Group explains.
Sales of children's and young adult books just keeps growing. In fact, it's the fastest growing category of books in terms of sales.
The report suggests the biggest reason young adult fiction book sales were down is that there really weren't any books turned into big movies or tv shows in 2016.

Pew Researched published a study last year that found Americans still prefer to go old school when it comes to reading.
The study found that on average, Americans reads about 12 books a year. In 2016, about 65 percent of Americans reported having read a print book in the past year. Whereas 28 percent reported having read an e-book.
