Former Bemidji pastor sentenced in sex assault
A former Lutheran minister from the Bemidji area was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenaged step-daughter many times over three years, the Grand Forks Herald reports.
Darwin Schauer, 71, asked made an apology and asked for the forgiveness of the court, said Hubbard County Attorney Don Dearstyne, who prosecuted him in a Park Rapids, Minn., courtroom, the newspaper reported. But Dearstyne said he did not find Schauer sincere.
State rules require Schauer to serve at least 20 years of the sentence and he will have supervised probation for life after he released.
