Former DFL lawmaker joins Secretary of State race

Former DFL Minnesota state lawmaker Jeremy Kalin has joined two other Democrats in the race for Secretary of State.

"I am committed to making sure that every Minnesota citizen has the right to vote - and I have the record to show it," Kalin says on his new campaign website.

State Rep. Debra Hilstrom and veteran elections administrator Rachel Larson Bohman, are also in the race.

No Republicans have formally announced their intentions to run, although a few GOPers are "certainly expected" in the race, MinnPost reports.

Two-term incumbent Secretary of State Mark Ritchie announced last month that he won't run for re-election in 2014.

Kalin served in the Minnesota House for two terms and left after the 2010 election to become an energy consultant, the Associated Press reported.

In other news, State Sen. Roger Reinert, DFL-Duluth, on Tuesday halted speculation that he might seek the Secretary of State job. He tweeted:
