Four Minneapolis spots win in Andrew Zimmern's national 'Munchies' contest

The best donuts, cocktails, pizza, and craft brew in the nation can be found in Minneapolis – so says Andrew Zimmern's 2015 "Munchies: People's Choice Food Awards."

But don't take Zimmern's word for it (after all, there could be some bias, as the popular TV host happens to be a Twin Cities resident). According to his website, hundreds of thousands of people voted in the nationwide contest, which lined up about 100 finalists in categories ranging from "Best Food Blog" to "Best Ramen."

Without further ado...

The Winners

Best Donuts: Glam Doll Donuts, on Minneapolis's famous Eat Street. The shop specializes in elaborate, larger-than-life gourmet donuts.

Best Pizza: Pizzeria Lola, already a winner of numerous awards and recognition.

Best Craft Brewery: Surly Brewing Co., a popular beermaker which recently opened a "destination brewery" to excited crowds in Minneapolis.

Best Cocktail Bar: Marvel Bar, a speakeasy-style lounge featuring what the Star Tribune called "stunning cocktails."

While Minneapolis clearly made out like a bandit in Zimmern's food contest, Chicago won in the "Best Food City" category.

Good for the Windy City, but only one actual dining or drinking establishment in Chicago made the cut (Gibsons Steakhouse).

Undoubtedly, Minneapolitans will enjoy their much wider selection of "Munchies" winners.
