Fox 9 morning anchor leaves to focus on radio

Fox 9 morning new anchor Jason Matheson is leaving to focus on the radio show he co-hosts at My Talk 107.1 FM, which will be moving from early afternoons to morning drive from 5:30 to 9 a.m., the Business Journal reports. His last day at Fox 9 will be Feb. 28. The new gig will start March 4.

Matheson and co-host Alexis Thompson are to replace the husband-and-wife team of Ian and Margery Punnett. Ian Punnett, who suffers from tinnitus, left the station in December.

Matheson announced the change on Facebook.

Matheson has been at the station 12 years. "But sometimes, as scary as it is, change is good and the future knocks with a loud thump you can't ignore," he said on Facebook.

According to his bio on the station website, Matheson started at Fox 9 in 2000 as executive producer of The Buzz, a daily entertainment segment that covered the world of local and national entertainment. He soon moved in front of the camera on "Good Day Minnesota."
